Assam is the state of magic, also known as ‘Asom’ and ‘Akhom’. If you go there I am sure that you would be lost in your dreams. 

Like, every time I hear the word tea, it reminds me of the time when I walked in the tea gardens of Assam. If someone is talking about silk, where someone can get the best quality of silk then I am sure that there should not be any other option than Assam. This is the state known for the best quality of tea and silk.

This is the state where you will get everything from outing scenes to the world’s famous food to eat.

Let’s have a tour of India`s most beautiful state ‘The land of red river and blue hills’ Assam.

About

Assam is a state in northeastern India, south of the eastern Himalayas along the Brahmaputra and Barak River valleys. The state is bordered by Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh to the north; Nagaland and Manipur to the east; Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, and Bangladesh to the south; and West Bengal to the west via the Siliguri Corridor, a 22 kilometres wide strip of land that connects the state to the rest of India.

Assam has a total of 34 Districts. Dispur, the capital city of Assam, is very popular. Its official language is Assamese. The state was the first site for oil drilling in Asia.

Assam has a very unique cultural heritage because of its folks, art & craft, and food.

Assamese always adorn clothes like them, sweet and simple. The women wear motif-rich mekhela chador or riha Mekhela. The men wear ‘suria’ or ‘dhoti’, and over it, they drape a chadar known as ‘Seleng’.

Gamosa is an integral part of their life. They are always proud to wear this dress (Gamosa). Gamosa is the word derived from Kampuri Gamassa which means “gama & chadar”. In all the ceremonies and cultural events, this beautiful dress is adorned by them.

Folks

Assam is rich in his folks and music. Classical Assamese music is divided into Borgeet and Ojapali which combines narrative singing with dancing. The music of Oja-pali has a raga system of clear traditional orientation.

Tea Gardens

Tea gardens are the pride of this state. There are more than 800 tea estates and 90,000 small tea gardens in which Monabarie Tea Estate at Biswanath District of Assam is Asia’s Largest Tea Estate. The tea estate is owned by McLeod Russel India Limited, a part of Williamson Magor Group. 

Assam is world-famous for its quality of tea as well as the natural beauty of the tea plantation 

Area.

Dibrugarh is also known as the tea city or tea capital of Assam.

One-horned Rhinos

Assam is also famous for this endangered species of Rhinos. The major population of one horn rhinoceros is mostly in Assam.

This makes Assam famous as a tourist attraction all across the world.

If you wish to see this beautiful one-horned Rhino of Assam then you must visit the Kaziranga National Park, located in the Golaghat and Nagaon district in Assam. 

Bihu

Bihu is the state festival of Assam. Bihu marks the presence of love and peace amongst the people of Assam. This chief festival is mainly celebrated 3 times a year according to the Assamese calendar. This festival is enjoyed as the mark of new seasons, offering, and livelihood of the people of Assam.

Rongali Bihu

The Rongali Bihu coincides with the Assamese New year and is celebrated in April.

Kongali Bihu

It is always celebrated in October. In this festival, all the Assam people pray to god to have a good harvest.

Bhogali Bihu

This festival is celebrated every January. This festival is also known as Magh Bihu as this festival marks the end of harvesting and all the Assamese people celebrate this festival as a victory of their struggle.

Whenever we decide to go somewhere, the first thing we see is the “Cuisine” of that particular place. And here the Assam cuisine is one of the most famous cuisines in the world.
